How we found these domain names

We found all of these domain names by processing the root zone file for the .com top-level domain. We also confirmed that the domain names in this post are owned by Google by looking at domain WHOIS information for the ones we included.

It is likely that many of these domain names have been registered by Google either to protect their brand, and in some cases to prevent typosquatting and similar practices. Google lawyers have surely been keeping busy reclaiming lots of Google-related domain names over the years.

For those interested, here is a complete Excel file with all .com domain names that point to the Google DNS servers ns1.google.com-ns4.google.com. Note that not all of them will be owned by Google (but most are) so you will need to confirm ownership with a WHOIS lookup.

We hope you found this collection interesting. :)

“az-on-url-je.com” sounds as if it is meant to be interpreted in Hungarian. “Az Ön URL-je” simply means “Your URL” in Hungarian.

You think they will sell me google.com if I ask them? :) :)

I wish I had gphone.com

This is Fishy!
* googletimewarner.com
* ebay-google.com
* googlewarnerbros.com

1p0g0og1e.com looks like it’s one of a few dozen they have that look anything like “IPO Google” so I’d guess they’re all a few years old.

i hope i could own googlemicrosoft.com

Well this isn’t just the only list. Google Inc. has 9,894 domains registered under their name. And guess what!,60% of these domains were registered itself in 2001, 35% in 2002 and 5% in 2003.

This is quite amazing and this might increase after some years looking at the present Search Engine Power.

This is a cool post, some of those names are ridiculous like you said.

Most of them don’t work here. Perhaps you need to update that funny list ;)

They don’t “work” because Google registered them to keep others from getting them. Just because Google didn’t put anything to hold its place (I’m sure they don’t want everyone to know they own googlewarez.com).

Great list…I thought I had a few good ones myself, but it looks like I will need to build up my collection before I have anything to brag about.

Of course some of those domain names could have been taken from people who had registered them, thus breaching Google’s trademark.

Its doesnt really mean the big G went out and registered them all….

fuckengoogle.com – haha :]

NappyMonitor ? WTF

# google-yahoo-porn.com
# google-yahoo-sex.com

Can Yahoo sue Google for owning trademark infringement?

Who owns GOOGLEISGOD.COM ?

In reply to Anand – Yahoo can’t do anything about it unless they could prove that Google was in some way either benefiting from pretending to be a Yahoo service or if they were using the domain name in bad faith, i.e. to damage Yahoo’s image

Still I don’t see why either would see those domains as key – but obviously someone did to register it. Probably the same person that thought it would be vital to secure goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooogle.com(!)

Sounds to me like Google needs to hire a better domain name management specialist…

is there any chances Google are selling this on auction?? ;)

GooglePorn.com is enough for me… LOL

i decoded the idns for You:

There’are 2 (chinese & korean?) I can’t seem to be able to paste here…
The second one is the weird az-on-url with a hungarian lettering, so Attila is right on…

the googlesucks and gamilsucks type domains are probably bought because if someone else owned them GooGle can NOT sue for copyright infringement.

gogoogle.pl are from google?

why not google.gouv?
thanks for your post.

Looks like many people have tested g{insert a lot of o}gle.com one time or another. I have. Why dont g secure all the gooooooooooooooooole.com etc domains? Nice list btw. :)

Wow, google have a lot of domain names. Just goes to show though that its worth spending the money and registering potential domain names

goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooogle.com ha ha ha !!!!

Oh.. great list here!!!

they forgot g00g13.com

95% of those were fake. horrible article.

why on earth do they even come up with these names!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow interesting post, would not imagine them owning so many domain names. However im concerned about fan based website http://www.googlefocus.com
Could this regarded as trademark infringement??

BIg G does have the money to able corner the market, popular search terms related keywords. Can someone argue that donationcard.com is not related to their business, and really they are squatting on some names. i have often wondered why they have not entered the domain name marketplace/registration.

justin.

Nice list, I to see what Google is up to.
But Googleplanet.com GoogleUniverse.com
are there yet. ;)

Hi nice post, i read your blog from time to time but i was wondering something. I also run a blog on a similar topic, but i get 1,000’s of spam comments and emails every day does that happen to you.. Any ideas to stop it? I currently have commenting disabled but i want to turn it back on.. Thanks!

You should put a few more ads on your site as you could probably make a lot of money. This is great writing.

Can you provide more information on this?

The secretsofburritos.com?
I mean come on Google, what do they have a chef working there?

Preventing domain squatting is the main reason for many of those.

I must once again note that I liked the errorassist part :D GoogleFaith is also not bad, maybe they are onto something?!

Thanks for the laughs…

It seems that Google is using a 3rd party service that is registering possible illicit domain usage.
For many of the domains, the registrar is Markmonitor.com , which “Prevents illicit domain abuse tactics—such as cybersquatting and domain kiting—by using defensive domain registration to block others from exploiting domain names associated with your brand”

markmonitor.com

haha rofl

had a good laugh, thx! ;D

Seen it before, it really is an odd list.
I wonder if employees ever registered some as an internal joke.

Microsoft’s (desperate) open source love affair

Microsoft and open source

Microsoft and open source, those are two things that traditionally don’t mix. Quite the opposite; the more hardcore members of the open source community tend to view Microsoft as just one step below Satan.

But while much of the open source community has little love for Microsoft, Microsoft is actually trying desperately to send some love back. The Redmond giant may have its own business reasons for doing so, of course, but that doesn’t change the fact that Microsoft is contributing to open source in more ways than most people are aware of.

Innovation by acquisition

Innovation by moneyWhat do Android, Visio, Flash, Hotmail, Google Analytics and Powerpoint all have in common? Can you guess?

The answer is: None of them were created by the companies who now own them. They were acquisitions.

These products have continued to develop at their new homes, but the seed of innovation that sparked an actual, new product came from the outside. The key word here is innovation.

Google’s competition: Most of the Internet

GoogleWe all know Google is huge and their wide range of services are bound to have a fair share of competitors, but you may be surprised just how wide-ranging Google considers its competition to be.

Here below we have included a quote from Google’s latest SEC filing with some very interesting information about what Google has to say about its competition.

Open SourceBig sites and services like Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter and many others rely heavily on open source software to run their operations. Happily, this isn’t a one-way street. They are also giving back to the open source community, not just by contributing to existing projects, but sometimes by open sourcing their own internal projects, giving back something completely new.

And what these popular sites can contribute is often quite valuable. Since they tend to be very large, they run big operations and have been forced to create solutions for scalability and performance problems that most other sites simply don’t have to deal with.

Our desktops are ruled by dinosaurs

DinosaurThink about the software you use day to day. Depending on your profession and interests, what you use will vary, but some applications tend to show up over and over again. Microsoft Word and Excel, Powerpoint, Photoshop, various web browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox, Skype, iTunes, and so on.

When it comes to those widely used, highly established desktop applications, think about how long it’s been since they first saw the light of day. Many of them are practically ancient.
