I’ve come across cross-cultural design challenges in the past, and in order to create a successful design for a company, you must design for their visitors. Western designs are frankly quite boring to Eastern site users. Nice visual comparison- but I am interested to know how you would break down the similarities and differences.

That is a good observation, I have found that most japanese websites are better looking… that might just be my take on things.

I’ve noticed this as well … I guess it’s the best way to suit different tastes. Japanese people are (usually) rather keen on colorful designs, while western websites rather focus on soberty and elegance.
