Very good article, i want to make only a small correction. .GS domains can be registered at Moniker for 24.70 $ / year. Is the cheapest price i found.

My personal blog used to be on gul.li before I sold site+brand gulli.com in early 2008 and I did always like sites like to use domain-hacked URLs like who.is or http://whois.to

But for non-experts there’s always a big downside on using them, that made yahoo aquire delicious.com for a reported million-dollar: people simple can’t remember names like del.icio.us or last.fm and type their native cctld or .com-names like lastfm.com instead

So im guessing its not essential anymore to hold a .com. I remember a little while ago it was a really bad move for a startup not to use a .com

Tons of hacks of words ending with “in” as well as sub hacks like surfs.in etc.
