You should also compare URL support. Not all URL shorteners support ftp:// links. To me, that's important.

u.nu is also another great shortener.

About a year ago I released a ColdFusion wrapper for URL services, called shrinkURL:
http://www.andymatthews.net/code/shrinkurl/
It currently supports: Adjix, BitLy, BudURL, ChilpIt, Cligs, Digg, EasyURL, FNaweso.me, Hexio, HREFin, Idek, IsGD, Lincr, Linkm.in, MooURL, PeaURL, PiURL, PntMe, POPrl, ShortIE, ShortTo, Snurl, TinyURL, Trakz, Trim, Twurl, URLZen, W3t, Zima

At the same time I released an AIR application which tied into that wrapper allowing users to select the service of their choice and shrink it right from the app. It copies the URL straight to the clipboard, has a history panel to review the last 10 URLs shortened, and will soon have the option of storing login credentials for those services which offer that option.

I've recently thrown my hat in the ring with http://tnyb.it. I've added stats along with ranking, tagging, trends and XML feeds.

The goal is to be a URL shortening service and a social bookmarking service as well. Please give it a try. It's free and no cost. Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

@matt ril
Do you not know how a database w/ indexing works? clearly not, since in your scenario tinyurl, snip and bit would be all on the losing end. I dont know of any Db services that search for a key with a linear search, but keep on defending your Is.gd friends to the death . . . .

Now Twitter is adding his own tracking system, so before going to the short url, the link pass through something like http://twitter.com/link_click_count . This increases a lot the overhead. In my country (Peru) with a very decent connection I see 1 second of time overhead to the original link.
I made my own calculations using Hammerhead tool from Steve Souders but it will be very nice if you can offer your own results.

My results: http://serlibre.info/articles/40/experimentando-con-twitter-y-los-acortadores-de-url-s (in Spanish)
