WordPress plugin makes it easy to add Pingdom Real User Monitoring to your site

wordpress plugin pingdom
SUMMARY: Add this plugin for Pingdom Real User Monitoring to speed up your WordPress site #rum #webperf Tweet this

Like so many of you, we’re big WordPress fans here at Pingdom, and now we’ve made it super-simple for you to add Real User Monitoring (RUM) to your WordPress site.

By adding RUM to your WordPress site using our brand new plugin, you will get answers to questions like what browsers your visitors use, how many of them are using tablets or other devices, where are they located, and many more. With this information you can then take steps to improve the performance of your site.

Real User Monitoring is available on all our plans, including the free one, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t add this plugin to your WordPress site today.

What Real User Monitoring can do for your WordPress website

If you have a blog or other website that runs WordPress, you’re in good company. WordPress is the most popular Content Management System (CMS) in the world. Right now, close to 65 million websites run WordPress.

To make it really easy for WordPress users to get started with their Pingdom Real User Monitoring service, we have developed a WordPress plugin that helps you start collecting RUM data.

Here’s how simple it is – just three simple steps:

  1. If you don’t have one already, create a Pingdom account.

  2. Create a RUM site.

  3. Install the plugin on your site following the instructions below.

Voila! You are up and running with Real User Monitoring collecting data from every visitor to your site.

Once the plugin is installed, you can view the results on the RUM page in your Pingdom control panel at my.pingdom.com.

Here are a few examples:

screenshot-1

You can see how the load times for all visitors to your site are distributed, from the slowest to the fastest.

screenshot-2

You can even see pageviews in real-time.

screenshot-3

You can see what browsers visitors use to connect to your site and how the load time varies between the browsers.

screenshot-4

You can see what devices visitors use when connecting to your site, e.g. desktop, tablet, phone, etc.

screenshot-5

You can see from where in the world visitors connect to your site and how the load time varies between countries.

In total, all the data that Real User Monitoring presents you with will give you the actionable information you need in order to make the necessary updates that will benefit all your visitors.

How to install the plugin

There are two ways you can install the plugin.

Option 1 – From within your WordPress site

  1. From your WordPress administration interface, go to Plugins > Add new. Once there, search for “Pingdom” or “real user monitoring.”

    search

  2. Click Install Now and follow the instructions.

  3. Now go to Plugins > Pingdom Real User Monitoring. There you will find further instructions for how to enable RUM on your WordPress site, as shown in the picture below.

Option 2 – From WordPress.org

  1. Download the plugin from here (it’s a zip file.)

  2. Unzip the file you downloaded.

  3. Upload the full directory called “real-user-monitoring-by-pingdom” into your /wp-content/plugins/ directory.

  4. Activate the plugin at the plugin administration page.

  5. Now follow the same instructions as in Option 1, step 3.

Want more information?

We’re very excited about releasing this plugin, and we think it will help us all to make WordPress sites faster and more reliable.

If you want to know more about Real User Monitoring, we’ve collected a number of articles for you, which should serve as a good starting point.

We are, of course, also available to answer any questions you may have about RUM and any other services. You can contact our support.

If you have any WordPress-related questions, try the forum on WordPress.org on first.

Good news and I am a kind of envy to the clients of Pingdom because the company is developing so fast and they offer more and more options every day. I have the monitoring software Anturis, but they are very hard and I hope that very soon they will present a feature of their software.

Great plugin - another valuable tool from Pingdom. You might want to remove the deprecated argument from the load_plugin_textdomain function call on line 111 - it's throwing notices.

Really love this plugin and also all the tools to Pingdom. Works perfectly!

I only have one complaint, the free account only allows you to monitor a single site. Most managers have dozens of sites, the monitor would be cool at least 5 sites, so I can compare results before performing the upgrade.

I know I can create different accounts, but serial cool this limit of 5 sites, nor to diminish some features such as real-time reports, or something else.

Congratulations by the tool

That's something we're working on, Fredrik, but there's no specific ETA at the moment.

Sorry - I mean add 'false' to stop the correct argument being parsed as the deprecated one.
