Our server infrastructure has a lot of work to do, it’s quite a busy bee. When you monitor the uptime and response time of as many websites and servers on the Internet as we do, and do it on a continuous basis, the numbers quickly add up. Just for fun, we thought we’d share some of these numbers with you.
First a couple of year-to-date numbers for the Pingdom monitoring network:

We posted this in the Pingdom blog but thought that you regular readers of Royal Pingdom might also enjoy it, so here it is, a sneak preview of our up-and-coming, super-designed office:
We’re about to enter a new phase in Pingdom’s history. Over the next few months, we’ll be hiring even more people, and our current office is starting to feel a bit small.
That’s why we’ll soon be upgrading to “Pingdom Office 2.0.” We’ve already picked the office space, signed the lease, and the plan is to move in at the beginning of 2012. Before we move in, the whole office will have been rebuilt and custom designed for us, and will rival some of the coolest offices out there. We’re aiming for awesomeness.

Google is intrinsically associated with the city of Mountain View, California. That’s where the Google HQ, a.k.a. the Googleplex, is located. Mountain View itself has been subjected to a number of Google’s experiments through the years, like free Wi-Fi Internet for the entire city, self-driving cars, and more.
But Google has more than 26,000 employees, and a majority of these do not work in Mountain View. In fact, Google has as many as 75 offices around the world.

From today and onward, Pingdom has two blogs. Yes, two. Read on and you’ll understand why.
There’s our good old Royal Pingdom, where we will continue to ramble on about web tech, the Internet and geeky things that don’t necessarily have anything to do with Pingdom the company.
Then there’s the new addition: the official Pingdom blog. This blog will be 100% dedicated to giving you news about Pingdom’s products (mainly our uptime monitoring service) and what’s happening with the company itself. We’ll also be generous with tips and tricks that Pingdom users might find useful.

You’ve been asking for it, ladies and gentlemen, and now you have it: a Pingdom app for Android.
Just like our iPhone app, the Pingdom Android app is an excellent companion to the Pingdom uptime monitoring service. It lets you connect to your Pingdom account to view the status of the servers and websites you’re monitoring, and also supports alerts via push notifications.
The app is free, and works together with all types of Pingdom accounts (including free accounts).

Things have been going so well with the new Pingdom REST API that we have decided to move forward and make it public. In fact, we made it public yesterday.
The new API will remain in beta for a few weeks just in case, but this is pretty much the final thing. It’s more of a release candidate than a beta.
The goal with this new API was to make it as powerful and flexible as possible, but still easy to use. It gives Pingdom users full access to their accounts via the API. The feedback we have received so far has been great.

Two weeks ago we released the beta of our new public report pages (also known as status pages), and we’ve been overwhelmed by the positive feedback we’ve received from our users.

Starting today all Pingdom users can try out our new and improved public report pages, seen here below. These reports, also known as status pages, let you make some or all of your Pingdom monitoring results public, promoting transparency toward your users.
Since the public reports are hosted by Pingdom, they will be available even when your own website is down. They are very handy as automatically updated public status pages for web services and hosting companies, to name one example.

We’ve been working on a brand new API for Pingdom and would now like to work together with a selection of beta testers to make sure it’s the best it can be before we release it into the wild.
This new API is part of a wave of backend development we’re doing here at Pingdom that will be the basis for taking our uptime monitoring service to new heights. We’re growing fast and have recently added several really talented developers to our team, and another hiring spree is coming up in a week or two for seven new positions. You will see a lot happening with Pingdom over the coming year.
