Besides the pocket protector, every geek has to have a wristwatch. The problem is that it can’t just be any old watch. It has to be connected to the Internet, work as a calculator, show the weather forecast, and of course also tell time.
But of course only a small percentage of geeks will actually wear a wristwatch, relying instead on smartphones. However, we feel obliged to point out some alternatives should you choose to put a timepiece on your wrist.

We’re excited for our U.S. readers that Google has introduced its online music service – finally. For the rest of us, we have to wait and see when we’ll be lucky enough to see Google Music’s presence where we live.
Google Music went live almost nine years after Apple opened the doors to its iTunes Store. To see what Google is up against, we have collected a plethora of numbers about iTunes from all over the Web.
As you will see, Google is facing some long odds. We hope for Google’s sake this isn’t a case of too little, too late, considering what a behemoth they are competing with.

First there was the Mac line of computers, then Apple added the iPod, then the iPhone, and little over a year ago, the iPad. Over the past 10 years, Apple has gone from being a computer company to being a true consumer brand.

Microsoft’s iPod competitor, Zune, has been revived with the newly announced Zune HD. But in spite of positive reviews, the overall response from consumers seems to be… well, lukewarm to say the least.
To give you an idea, let’s look at the search volume (via Google Trends) to measure interest for Zune compared to the market-leading iPod over time.

The iPod, once Apple’s biggest source of income, has been overtaken by the iPhone in terms of the money it’s bringing in to the company. This is a pretty significant development, so let’s have a closer look at this trend.
Since we don’t have actual unit sales figures, at least not over time, let’s see what we can learn from this trend graph from Google Insights for Search. It shows the popularity of the terms “iPod” versus “iPhone” in searches. It’s quite revealing.
