There are a lot of web hosting companies out there with unusual, strange, or just plain weird names (and URLs). We have collected some of the strangest ones in this post.

The trashy
- www.InternetTrash.com (From their website: “The only place for trashy, tasteless, useless, politically incorrect, silly, stupid, meaningless, obnoxious, waste of bandwidth homepages! Normal & ordinary homepages also welcome!”)
The insanely specialized
- www.OutGay.com (Yes, it’s web hosting for gay people…)
The religious
- www.AmenWorld.com (Their slogan actually is: “In web we trust”)
The hard to classify
- www.Yupapa.com (at least it’s not “yumama.com”).
- www.GoDaddy.com (Ok, they are huge, but they still have one of the strangest names around when you think about it.)
Animals, animals, animals…
There seems to be a lot of love for the animal kingdom among web hosts.
- www.BigBirds.com (Hosting on Sesame Street?)
The STDs
- www.Minivds.com (Don’t worry. They’re just really small VDs…)
The extremely spacious
- www.MegaGiga.com (Both mega AND giga? Ok, we get it, lots of space, right? But still less than…)
- www.ExaBytes.com (The exa- prefix means 10^18, i.e. one quintillion (1,000,000,000,000,000,000) bytes. Not bad…)
The Simpson’s alternative
- www.HowdyNeighbor.com (Did Ned Flanders get into hosting?)
The healthy alternatives?
- www.BananaHosting.com (Lots of potassium with your HTML?)
- www.CyberSalad.net (Just add oil and vinegar.)
The tasty
Or should we have called this category “hungry hosting” instead?
Just add Bling?
- www.DataPimp.com (Though it seems they just shut down.)
Perhaps not the best choice of words
- www.PowerSurge.com (Something that can knock out power and hardware is perhaps not the ideal name choice for a hosting company.)
- www.Crankithosting.net (Crank IT Hosting? Methamphetamine hosting? Ok, it’s Crankit hosting, but heck…)
- www.BurningBulb.net (Nothing with “burning” in it, please.)
- www.00server.com (But if you have 0 servers, how can you host anything?)
What’s in a name?
There are so many web hosting companies around that picking a truly different name could be an effective strategy to stand out in a very crowded marketplace. Names that have that “strangeness factor” can often be really easy to remember as well.
Of the examples in this post, GoDaddy has to be the perfect example of a very successful company with a strange and easy-to-remember name. (But of course the name is not the only success factor… if it was that easy then everyone would do it.)
Did we miss your favorite?
As you can imagine, it’s more or less impossible to go through all the web hosting companies out there for a list like this, so if you feel we have missed a gem, please add it in the comments. There is also a thread over at Webhostingtalk.com which was the inspiration for this post.
One addition to your The insanely specialized : http://www.gayrealms.com
It is funny reading your post . 🙂
Ok, here’s a few:
http://www.tigerdroppings.com (no, it’s not about tiger ‘do-do’s)
insolentprick.blogspot.com (actually, this might be appropriate)
http://www.betterthancrabs.com (I’m sure anything is….)
In all fairness to yupapa.com, it does mean something in Chinese. Yu I believe means water, but I cannot be sure because this is Cantonese.
Don’t forget http://www.fuitadnet.com – “fuitad” isn’t even a word!
You forgot http://www.asmallorange.com/
You’ve forgotten the one I use – ASmallOrange.com
My host: asmallorange.com
http://www.gotahoe.com
Go Tahoe or Got A Hoe?
Yeah, we got the OO7 joke with 00server… 🙂 But it was just kinda far fetched.
Man, this article wins for ridiculously repetitive comments.
Like others said, you forgot asmallorange.com. I love them even though their name has absolutely no meaning behind it.
i used a place called “angryhosting.com” for a while – decent prices, and a great logo: >:|
the hostmaster said it was a suggested name when he was searching for a domain name, and it had a certain ring to it…
I use rimuhosting.com
I used to use The Community Internet Access company (thecia.net), and (since I worked for the government) kept getting questions about whether I was working for the Central Intelligence Agency.
I will shamelessly plug my own hosting, and admit that it has a funny name: SnapTortoise.com
Here’s a cool one using ‘exa (i.e. one quintillion)
http://www.webexa.com
How about http://www.fuzzymonkey.net? Sounds fun!
I refuse to shamelessly plug my favorite host over at http://columbusGEEK.com.
This is not the time or the place for shenanigans like that.
HOW ABOUT OOCHIE.COM
I don’t know what an OOCHIE even is!
madrooster.com
With them for a while.
There is always http://www.marcocolo.com/ and http://www.burnthost.com
“www.AmenWorld.com Their slogan actually is: “In web we trust” ”
I’d have gone with “The Hosts of Heaven”
i found laughingczar.com
Of course http://WWW.NEWSPOO.COM is a great one.
You forgot Mosso
http://www.mosso.com
GeekFiesta.com
We bought it just before the holidays and its going to be the name of our hosting company.
I use Lunarpages. Sounds so 1950s, but they’re one of the best!
Glidecom http://www.glidecom.com
http://niggahosting.com/
I was with deafening-urge.net hosting before they went under.
00server… well in some pat o Germany and France 00 stands for the loo (toilet, WC, whatever you call it). So does that mean, when you host with them your site is down the drains?
YetiHost.co.uk :o)
Hey put ours under animals. Fatjack is the name of the donkey character which is our brand / logo.
Donkeys are 43% funnier then most other animals.
🙂 Great work. Some of those companies are among the biggest in business – GoDaddy, FatCow and etc. I presume that those names help their owners to reach better recognition.
Don’t forget PowWeb. They’re an ok web host, but I’m not sure what features they have that justifies the “pow” in the name.
I thought maybe powwow or some indian name thing, who knows.
You missed the greatest webhost on the Internet- http://www.nouptime.com
… one more thing. I gues my blog’s name would also get into list of funny and strange web hosting realted sites.
Hey,
The list is trully great 🙂 but I think that http://www.nouptime.com beat them all!! The idea is great and shows that people can do almost anything to attract visitors and customers.
Good Luck!
Alexander
Very good !
How about http://www.slamdot.com? Kinda cool, and it doesn’t follow the whole xyzhost convention.
is laughing squid a good site?
